The model, quantity of air compressors, and air supply systems with different air quality and pressure should be determined based on air supply requirements, compressed air load, and technical and economic comparisons. Within the compressed air station, the number of reciprocating or screw air compressors should be 3-6 units. For air supply systems of the same quality and pressure, the number of air compressor models should not exceed two. The number of centrifugal air compressors should be 2-5 units, and the same model should be used.

Purification of respiratory gases
Unlike the oxygen used in hospitals, the breathing gas used by divers often comes from compressed air delivered by a compressor. In the past, the working conditions for divers were extremely harsh. Not only was the breathing gas unpurified, but the use of old oil-lubricated compressors resulted in a large amount of gaseous oil vapor being inhaled into the divers' lungs, causing long-term damage to their health. With the changing social values towards human life, many salvage bureaus, navies, and other places requiring compressed air for breathing have demanded purification of the breathing gas. Unlike traditional purification requirements, breathing gas is not necessarily better when drier. Its purification requirements are more nuanced.
